WRITE A BOOK PROJECT 2012

Clare Education Centre is currently organising WRITE A BOOK 2012.  This is the 18th CONSECUTIVE YEAR of this successful project.

Last year was a phenomenal success with a most enjoyable social AWARDS NIGHT in DROMOLAND CASTLE.

Clare Education Centre once again thanks the 2,000 + pupils, their parents and most especially their teachers who made this project possible.  If, however, you have not tried WRITE A BOOK before or have for any reason taken part in the past but were unable to participate last year maybe now is the time to re-enter or give WRITE A BOOK 2012 a try for the first time.

To help us process WRITE A BOOK 2012 I invite you to complete the enclosed registration form immediately and forward it to the address below, marking envelope “WRITE A BOOK”.  This is vital so that we can finalise our plans for this year.

PLEASE return the REGISTRATION FORM   before Midterm Break Feb 10th 2012

Entries Close on Friday, 20th April, 2012

O’ Mahony’s Bookshop will again be the main sponsor.  We look forward to hearing from you

Pat Hanrahan, Director

Write a Book 2012 - Guidelines

1. Application/Registration form  must be posted to the Centre by Feb 10th ,  declaring the intention of your school to take part.

2. As part of the Write a Book project classes will be invited to write 'en bloc' in either Irish

or English. NO MIXED BUNDLES, PLEASE.

3. All books must use official labels with all relevant information. The label should be

securely affixed to the inside back cover of each book.

4. Two class lists are needed (one for the office and one with the bundle of books). A

class list must accompany each set of books with the total number of books enclosed

printed clearly on top. Check your class list and be sure that an absent book is not listed

as it can cause major administrative problems. A class list must also be attached to each set of books.

5. Books from children with learning difficulties to remain with the class bundle. In the case

of the use of a word processor the teacher must sign to verify that it is the child's own

work. Books must not be commercially bound. Teachers who consider that special

attention should be given to a particular book should indicate this on the class list form.

6. Each class participating will receive a Special Merit Award. Mixed classes will be

treated as one unit. Every child participating will receive a Write a Book Certificate.

8. New Category (Electronic Books) – This year Electronic Books in any format will be welcome and will form a  separate section. Examples of appropriate media include - , PowerPoint, Photostory, Animoto, Photopeach, Storybird, Flipsnack, MovieMaker, Picassa, ComicLife, ToonTastic, BookCreator etc.

9. Suggestion : Following on from our very successful Genealogy Project last year pupils might consider writing the life story of an older  person in the family / community or  the story of  someone who has passed away. This can be a family member  e.g. 'Grandparent / Great Grandparent / Person from the locality etc.

10. O’ Mahony’s Book Shop are again our main sponsors. We very much appreciate their support.

The “Write a Book Project” forms part of

response to the National Literacy Strategy 2012.
