CLARE EDUCATION CENTRE
Re: Capacity Building – Drama, History & Geography, Visual Arts
Dear Colleague
This Centre is participating in a training programme which is being organised by Dublin West Education Centre (DWEC) and the Primary Professional Development Service (PPDS). The purpose of the programme is to provide sufficient training to a group of teachers that they will be enabled to deliver courses in the Autumn, Spring and Summer schedules of Education Centres in the future and that they will qualify for inclusion on a national database of teacher tutors. The initiative in this instance is in the areas of Drama, History & Geography & Visual Arts.
The initiative is intended for teachers who may have delivered some courses already or for those who have not delivered any courses to date but who have a keen knowledge of, an interest in and enthusiasm for the subject and who implement the methodologies of the 1999 Curriculum effectively.
DETAILS
Teachers who are nominated by the Centre will undergo four days training commencing Monday 30th November – Thursday 3rd December in Galway
· Substitution costs will be covered for the four days absence from school on training
· Department of Education & Science training travel rates will apply
· Accommodation will be provided at or close to the training venue for those who require it
Criteria for Selection
Candidates should have:
· A keen knowledge of, an interest in and enthusiasm for the subject
· Confidence in the teaching of the subject
· A commitment of the Drama/History & Geography/Visual Arts 1999 (whichever is appropriate)
· A commitment to delivering courses through Education Centres
· Permanent or temporary/fixed term position in their current school (not substitute as should be fully qualified primary teacher)
It is not appropriate to nominate teachers who worked in PCSP in these subject areas; they have already been through a more sophisticated training regime.
It is desirable that teachers who took part in previous capacity building initiatives are not nominated again unless in exceptional circumstances.
Opportunities & Possibilities
The training will provide opportunities and possibilities for participants to:
· Avail of high quality professional development in the subject area
· Acquire/develop presentation and facilitation skills
· Contribute to the professional development of their own staffs at school level and the broader community through evening and Summer courses
· Qualify for inclusion on a national database of teacher tutors
