CONTEXT AND MOTIVATION
The Danish participant, 10.Element, is a 10th class centre, which receives the students for their final voluntary year in the Danish Folkeskole. About one third of our students are migrants and refugees mainly from the Muslim world. As we are an inclusive school, the intellectual and social competences as well as the competences as fellow citizens differ a lot. When the students leave us, they continue with their further education, so we constitute the bridge between school and further education. Because of that career guidance is a focal point. The concept of bridge building plays a prominent part of our educational activities, as we are very much aware of our important task of increasing the percentage of young people staying in education. The aim of this year is first of all to make the students aware of their own competences during the work with “ the whole person"
We work to enhance these competences partly through intellectual activities and partly through the introduction of cultural events such as theatre, concerts, art galleries, sports events etc. Furthermore we have a formal link to the local municipality which includes their active cooperation in education sessions in the school, teaching the students about their rights and duties as adult citizens.
