Spring 2012 Scratch Courses For Clare Teachers

(Suitable for upper Primary and Post-Primary Teachers)

Clare Education Centre in co-operation with the Computer Education Society of Ireland (CESI) and Lero  - the Irish Software Engineering Research Centre are engaging in an initiative to develop and roll out teacher training in the use of Scratch (a visual programming language) in the classroom, funded by NCTE. Each course will be lead by a teacher practitioner, who will indicate approaches used in class.

Session 1 will be devoted to mastering the basic programming steps and control blocks.  This will culminate with each participant creating an interactive game.

After the Session 1  input, participants should be able to apply what they had learned and to complete a few programmes/games of their own.

The  Saturday would be devoted to troubleshooting, a “show and tell session”, a workshop on how they might use Scratch within their own schools and how they might form a local support cluster.
