An introduction to Autistic Spectrum disordersTheory and Practice
Clare Education Centre in conjunction with Elizabeth O Shea will deliver a series of  courses on Autistic Spectrum disorders. The objective of this course is to present  participants with appropriate information that will enable them to implement best practice in the classroom. 
Two courses in total will be presented and each course will be presented over three nights.
The first course will start in 24 September and will include the following topics
Review of methodologies in use for ASD pupils
Social skills training for ASD pupils. Part 1
Social skills training for ASD pupils Part 2       
This will include strategies for dealing with challenging behaviour of the ASD pupil.
The second course will start on the 5 November and will include the following topics
The classroom environment how it effects the ASD pupil.     
How the classroom can be structured to meet the needs of the ASD pupil.  
The role of the Special Needs Assistant in the classroom environment   
Each course will start at 19:00 and finish at  21:00. If you are interested in attending a

Residential Course Glenstal

Clare Education Centre in conjunction with the Diocese of Killaloe will provide an opportunity for teachers to participate in a series of talks and lectures at Glenstal Abbey,

This residential course will take place from Friday 27th November 2009 @ 6pm to Sunday 29th November 2009 @ Lunch. The course will start with an invitation to participants to attend compline in the monastery followed by supper in the refectory. During Saturday and Sunday a range of topics including Learning how to pray, Benedictine Monastic Spirituality and Reflection will be discussed. There will also be time for questions and discussion. Topics discussed and debated will be relevant to both the primary and post primary curricula.

The subsidised fee for this course is €100. This fee covers all lectures and talks, full board from supper on Friday night to lunch on Sunday and accommodation in single en-suite rooms on Friday and Saturday nights.

A limited number of places are available on this course and priority given to teachers who have not attended previously.
