What You Need To Know About Setting Up Or Working In An ASD/Special Class (P) (PP) (SNA)

Teachers interested in working with ASD/SEN pupils are invited to this information session held by SEN teacher Libby Conroy (MSEN SEN, PG ASD)
Libby and Dr. Jordan will talk about Autism and briefly look at sensory and language and behaviour issues that affect how SEN children learn. They will discuss the best practice, evidence based teaching strategies you will need to be familiar with when working in an SEN setting. Participants will be guided on how to plan, assess and adapt the curriculum to meet these often complex learning styles.
Dr. David Jordan PHD will also speak about his experiences in the mainstream class setting and he will give advice on how he was helped and encouraged in his education.
Libby Conroy, founder of South Education Services has been delivering courses to students, teachers, principals, parents, snas and professionals working in the area of Autism and SEN since 2015.
Libby is a primary school teacher with over 15 years experience working in the area of Special Needs. She holds a Masters of Education specialising in Autism, A Post-Graduate diploma in SEN and various other certificates relating to SEN. She has worked with children and adults in both school and residential services and with people living with mild to severe and profound physical and intellectual disabilities.
Libby is highly passionate about encouraging kindness and a compassionate and empathetic approach to people with special needs and is convinced this is done through the knowledge and understanding of neurodiversity and special needs.
Dr. Jordan graduated with a Ph.D. in geology from Trinity College,Dublin in 2008. In 2002, during the early stages of his Ph.D. he was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome.
He helped set up peer a support program for university students with Asperger's Syndrome in collaboration with Dr. Rita Honan and he founded in 2002 the first social group for adults with Asperger's Syndrome and autism in Ireland. This group continues to meet weekly, on Zoom. Over 200 people on the autism spectrum have attended over the years. Dr. Jordan appeared in an RTE TV documentary about Asperger's Syndrome in 2005 and has given several radio interviews. He also presents to parents, teachers and psychologists at conferences several times a year describing his experiences growing up with Asperger's Syndrome.
