An Introduction to Cognitive Science for English Teachers
Date: Monday, 15th January 2024
Time: 7pm to 8pm
Venue: Online via Zoom
Target Audience: Junior and Senior Cycle English teachers
This webinar for teachers of post-primary English will
- give an overview of and introduction to the field of cognitive science in recent decades for those not familiar with it, with a focus on how English teachers can practically benefit from its insights.
- cover matters like long-term and working memory, cognitive load, attention, retrieval practice, spaced practice and the discrediting of the idea of ‘learning styles’.
- suggest where interested teachers can go for more information, such as academics like Daniel Willingham, Barbara Oakley, the Learning Scientists and Efrat Furst, and where to seek practical applications in the classroom from current English teachers.
