KHAN Academy

About This Course:

Introduction to online Maths Resources

Using the KHAN Academy as a

4th, 5th & 6th Class and Post Primary Maths Resource

Khanacademy.org is an innovative website for students and teachers that can be integrated into the classroom.  The  website  provides Maths learningvideos, exercises, hints and tips in a wide variety of mathematics topics to assist the needs of students at 5th and 6th class levels.

Web-based resources (such as videos) on a particular topic can be used in class or as homework. This resource has the potential to allow teachers to focus more on student learning and activity and less on teaching in the traditional sense.

Students can also use the site in their own time, as the website sets challenges for them suitable to their ability level. This allows students to learn at their own pace and in their own time.

This course will introduce teachers to the Khan Academy website. Participants will be shown how Khan Academy can be used by children to improve maths skills while working at their own pace. The course will focus on registering students, assigning learning tasks and monitoring student progress. The benefits of using Khan Academy in the classroom and at home will be explored.

Please bring earphones and have a gmail account set up before arriving.  Also be aware that you will be sharing your email address with others on the night.  If you have an iPad then please feel free to bring it along.
