Face To Face - Talk Boost Key Stage 2 Training (P)

Talk Boost Key Stage 2 is a targeted intervention to improve the language and communication skills
of 7-10 year olds. It consists of three 30-40 min sessions a week, delivered over 8 weeks by a SET. It‘s designed to be run in groups of 4 children. it’s designed for children whose language skills are below average for their age and need a “boost” to narrow the gap. It is not designed for children who are currently attending or who need to attend SLT. There is a tracker within the programme to assist staff in identifying the target children. there are whole class activities based on key activities, to ensure a link between the group sessions and the classroom.
The programme targets 5 components:

Attention and Listening, Vocabulary, Telling stories, Remembering and thinking, Working with others, Making friends and having Conversations.

Progress can be monitored through the Tracker and Children’s attitude Survey, either the class or
SET teacher will need to take responsibility for these.

Training provided will consist of a one off session, of approximately 5 hours. It is best practise that
teachers are trained in pairs of SET and class teacher.

The training can be completed using the tutors materials and then school can order their own using
the tutor’s license number after training or the materials can be purchased once the training date has been arranged. The Manuals and toolkit organiser cost approx £450, this includes 12 kits (which include activity books that are not reusable; these activity books cost approx £40 for 12). Training can be offered to max of 24, that is 12 pairs.
