NUI Maynooth Certificate in Counselling Skills

1 Year – 100 hours Tuition

This course is open to anyone who wishes to develop effective counselling skills and enhance their own personal development. It is of particular value to people working in the caring professions and those whose work involves an element of counselling skills.

The programme modules cover three main areas:

·         Models of counselling that will give the theoretical underpinning of the main approaches to counselling and therefore enhance your understanding of the various techniques used.

·         Counselling Skills Practice where you will have the opportunity to practice the core counselling techniques in triads and pairs in a supportive environment.

·         Personal Growth & Development where you are encouraged to become more self-aware in relation to the impact of the course and how your own value systems affect you in your role as helper.

Time/ Day: Wednesday Evenings 6.30 – 9.30pm

Course Duration: The course is 100 hours over one academic year and consists of 25 x 3 hour sessions together with 4 Saturdays (five hour sessions)

This course will appeal to anyone wishing to enhance their listening skills or personal development. It will also give them an insight into the characteristics and techniques of effective helpers in a broad range of settings.

It will have particular value to those working in the caring professions or those whose work already involves an element of counselling or listening skills.

Covering person centred theory, skills and personal development, this course also provides an ideal foundation for those interested in further training at a professional level.
