This two-part webinar will explore the development of reading skills in the English classroom, with an emphasis on:
- Examining reading as a process, through the lens of critical literacy.
- Sharing scaffolded approaches to reading which may motivate students to engage more purposefully with the novels and short stories on their Junior Cycle course.
Bio of Presenter: Selena Wilkes

Selena has been a teacher since 1989. She was an SEC examiner and advising examiner in higher level English for twenty four years and an advisor in English and literacy with PDST for three years. She currently teaches English, Geography and Chinese in New Cross College, Finglas, Dublin, and lectures in The School of Education, UCD, PME programme in English. Her hobbies include scuba-diving and boring people with photographs of her dogs.
