Using Visual Literacy to Support Critical Thinking for Context

This is a presentation about a variety of ways visual texts can be used for critical thinking around cultural context and appreciation of language use at Junior cycle.

The use of paintings, primary sources such as diaries, artifacts and multi-modal texts for performance art will be discussed with a supporting slideshow and written materials for a poetry example.

The presentation will also explore visual literacy as a means of enhancing students’ responses to characterization in a Junior Cycle novel from the prescribed list of texts and with some differentiated resources to support Classroom Based Assessment Two pieces.

The facilitator for the workshop will be Clare Edwards.
