
Acting In and Acting Out: Navigating Student Behavior and Anxiety (P) (PP) (SNA)

Overwhelmed students can internalise their response or externalise their response, both strategies can result of in behaviours of concern. Learning more about how the brain responds to stress can help teachers respond with compassion and calm. Teachers will be supported to look beyond the behaviour and identify the young person’s needs. Participants will learn about;
Brain response to stress
1. Develop an understanding of root causes of behaviours of concern
2. Understand the importance of regulate, relate, reason approach
3. Identify what is working well and build on this
4. Build a toolkit of practical strategies to respond with calm and compassion
Facilitator: Dr. Clara O Byrne PhD., M.Sc., M.Ed., M.Phil., B.Sc., B.A., HDE.
Dr Clara is a Chartered Psychologist with expertise in Education and Disability and is a certified ADHD Parent Coach. A former NCSE advisor (Behaviour & Wellbeing) and special school teacher, she runs a private practice in West Cork. Dr Clara’s extensive training has focused on neuro-affirming practices, coaching psychology, brain/body connection, stress management and disability advocacy.
