Face To Face - Talk Boost Key Stage 1 Training (P)
DATE: Tuesday, 20th & 27th January 2026
TIME: 2pm to 4.30pm
VENUE: Clare Education Centre
Talk Boost Key Stage 1 is a targeted evidence based intervention to improve the language and communication skills of 4-7 year olds. It consists of three 30-40 min sessions a week, delivered over 10 weeks by a SET. It ‘s designed to be run in groups of 4 children whose language skills are below average for their age and need a “boost” to narrow the gap.
It is not designed for children who are currently attending or who need to attend SLT.
There is a tracker assessment within the programme to assist staff in identifying the target children. There are also whole class activities based on key activities, to ensure a link between the group sessions and the classroom.
The programme targets 5 components:
Attention and listening,
Vocabulary,
Building sentences,
Telling stories,
Conversations.
Progress can be monitored through the Tracker and Children’s attitude Survey. Either the class or SET teacher will need to take responsibility for using these and recording results and outcomes.
Initial evaluation showed that Talk Boost KS1 can boost a child’s communication by 9-18 months in a 10 week period and ongoing evaluation shows how it continues to be effective.
The Manuals and toolkit organiser cost approx £500, this includes 12 kits (which include activity books that are not reusable; these activity books cost approx £50 for 12).
Schools that have sent staff to a previous TBK1 course and bought the kit already can send other staff members to be trained without having the cost of buying a new kit. Training can be offered to max of 24, that’s 12 pairs.
Further information on the TALKBOOST programme is available from the ICAN website.
