Ten Things I Wish I Had Known About Teaching Shakespeare At Junior Cycle

DATE:     Thursday, 25 November
TIME:       7pm - 8pm
VENUE:   Online

In this webinar I will go through ten things I have learned about teaching Shakespeare over the last ten years. I do not consider myself an expert in teaching Shakespeare by any stretch of the imagination. These were all lightbulb moments for me as I shakily navigated trying to teach Shakespeare. Teachers may benefit from learning from my mistakes in the following areas and listening to how I structure teaching them now:

  • Elizabethan theatre
  • Line breaks and punctuation
  • Grammar- Pronouns
  • Grammar- contractions
  • Grammar- inversions
  • Grammar- Old verbs
  • Retired words
  • Shakespeare, the word inventor
  • What is Iambic pentameter?
  • Prose, Rhymed Verse, Blank Verse
