First STEAMING Erasmus+ Project Meeting hosted by Clare Education Centre - 11th to 15th November 2019
Clare Education Centre hosted the first project meeting of the STEAMING Erasmus+ Project from November 11th – 15th 2019. STEAMING is a three year project about engaging students in the creation of their own STEAM learning. The project is a Research and Development programme in STEAM education and training. STEAM is the acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. The project is being led by Clare Education Centre in partnership with Mary Immaculate College Limerick and educational institutions from Croatia, Greece, Norway and Portugal.
The initial project meeting involved presentations, seminars, workshops and project planning. The delegates warmly praised the STEAM workshops presented by staff from St Senan's NS Kilrush, O'Callaghan's Mills NS and St John's NS Cratloe. Seminars were presented by Michael Browne, Evelyn Sorohan and the STEM Department from Mary Immaculate College. There were interesting exchanges on a philosophy of STEAM education and on opportunities for developing active engagment in collaborative STEAM learning and problem solving.
School visits were undertaken to St Senan's NS Kilrush, O'Callaghan's Mills NS, St John's NS Cratloe, St Flannan's College Ennis, St Joseph's Secondary School Tulla. The visitors were highly complimentary of the reception they received in each of the schools and commented very positively on the positive, affirmative, learning atmosphere in the host schools and the active involvement of students in their learning and in the daily life of the schools.
Over the three year duration of the project, it is expected that over 15 Clare Schools will participate and contribute to the development of teaching and learning resources for STEAM. It is further anticipated that the experieces and resources developed will benefit schools across all the partner countries.
