Zippy’s Friends
The HSE’s Health Promotion & Improvement Department in the Mid West are delighted to inform you that we are running a one day in person Zippy’s Friends training day for Primary Schools in Co. Clare this September. All details are below.
Some of the topics covered are:
- feelings
- communication
- relationships
- conflict resolution
Through its 24 sessions, in which they listen to stories and join in activities, children learn how to find their own solutions to problems. In this way they become better equipped to cope with difficulties in life, and to get on better with others.
Zippy’s Friends is evidence based. Large, independent evaluation studies have consistently found positive benefits for children taking part, to include an increase in positive coping strategies, improved social skills, class climate, reduction in bullying and improved academic performance.
Teachers are encouraged to attend the one day in person training to familiarise themselves with the programme, in order to increase their knowledge and confidence to deliver this mental health promotion programme within their school.
