Climate Action Teachers Association Training Day

Theme:                  ‘Our forests - for people and planet or profit?’
Date:                       Friday 12th September 2025 
Time:                      9:30-3:30pm (arrive from 9:15am for registration) 
Venue:                   Drumcondra Education Centre, DCU St Patrick's Campus, Drumcondra, Dublin 9
Travel expenses: Participants can claim either petrol or public transport costs by filling in the participant form on the day.
Substitution:       Our funding from Teacher Professional Networks currently does not cover teacher substitution costs.
Lunch:                A light lunch of sandwiches, tea, coffee and snacks will be provided on the day.
What to bring:    Some of the activities will take place outside on the grounds of DCU, please bring a travel mug and raincoat.
 
The training day will include:
  • a focus on targeted learning outcomes from both Climate Action short course and new LC Climate Action and Sustainable Development course
  • outdoor place-based practical hands-on activities
  • time for teachers to meet and discuss their own learning needs, plan for the coming year together and an optional Teach-Meet space 
  • a lecture and Q&A by Jennie C. Stephens, professor of Climate Justice at the ICARUS Climate Research Centre at the National University of Ireland Maynooth. She is an internationally recognized expert on renewable energy transformation, the power of fossil fuel interests, energy justice, climate justice, higher education, energy democracy, and gender and race in energy and climate.  For more information about Jennie see: www.jenniecstephens.com
  • a participatory workshop by Vicky Donnelly, Education and Outreach worker with Financial Justice Ireland. She has over 20 years of experience in designing and delivering critical Global Education and anti-racism programs, working in schools, colleges and universities around the country. During this time she has taken a particular interest in creative, participant-centred, and participatory methodologies, and experiential learning. Vicky's approach is informed by a range of thinkers and activists, anti-racism and decolonising perspectives, and pedagogies of hope.   • teacher support and resources from Lizzy Noone, Education Officer, Worldwise Global Schools
  • connecting with local campaigns challenging monoculture forestry and communities involved in nature restoration
