Webinar - Non-Exam LC Religious Education (R.E.): A series of approaches and topics to discuss and explore with senior cycle students
DATE: Tuesday, 13 April, Tuesday, 27 April and Tuesday, 11 May
TIME: 7pm to 8pm
VENUE: Online via Zoom
In the last number of years from being in a variety of school environments I have seen how teaching and approaching non exam religion has had to be totally changed in terms of content, methodologies and approaches to conventional topics.
This three-night webinar will look at the following topics in three separate sections of the senior cycle curriculum:
Tuesday, 13 April
World Religions: The idea of the cult and new religious movement. Most people will have taught this topic in some form but I will look beyond conventional topics such as Scientology or Branch Davidians. It will look at things such as QAnon, Cargo Cults and Wicca/Modern Day Paganism and more.
Tuesday, 27 April
Moral Decision Making: How to approach very difficult topics that are becoming more and more relative and how to approach them objectively yet informatively. Topics include IVF Treatment, Contraception, Vaccine Culture and Gender Issues.
Tuesday, 11 May
Issues of Justice and Peace: Exploring modern day slavery and how even in the modern day it still exists in western culture as well as the developing world. It will explore the Black Lives Matter movement and also, how slavery is a very broad topic defined by not just one sentence alone.
Join us on Tuesday the 13th April and we hope it will be of benefit to you and hopefully it can continue on for the proceeding two weeks.
